VIII. COMPETITION RULES

(I) Race shall comply with the latest CAA consented Rules and Regulations of IAAF, and 2017 Guangzhou Marathon.

 

(II) ROLL-CALL

Register by event in the specific areas at the Start (Huacheng Square) from 06:00 to 07:20, December 10. The race shall fire a shot at 07:30 (one shot only). The results will be based on net time.

 

(III) STARTING ORDER

The race starts in two waves. Runners by event line up in the sequence of Marathon, and Half Marathon. Elite athletes shall be positioned at the front of the start area, and runners of different events shall keep 20 meters between each other.

 

(IV) CUT OFF TIME

In order to provide an orderly organized race, Cut Off Time is set for each section of the course. To ensure a speedy re-opening for normal traffic, Cut Off Points are set up along the course. Participants who fail to reach the Cut Off Points at specific times above will be asked to leave the course and board the official buses to proceed to the Finish Area.

(V) CHIP TIMING

Chip timing service will be provided to Marathon and Half Marathon runners. The timing mats will be placed at the Start, 5KM, 8.2KM (U turn), 10KM, 15KM (U turn), 18KM (U turn), 20KM, the points of 21.0975KM (the Finish of Half Marathon, a separate route only for Half Marathon runners), 25KM, 30KM, 32.5KM (U turn), 35KM, 40KM and the Finish. Runners with timing chips are required to cross all timing mats on the ground during the race. If a runner misses any timing point, his/her result will be regarded as null.

 

(VI) BAGGAGE DEPOSIT

Marathon and Half Marathon runners shall place their personal belongings at the Baggage Deposit Area. Please do not deposit valuable item(s) (such as mobile phones, IDs, cash, keys, credit cards, laptops, etc.). Deposited personal belongings can be collected at the designated Baggage Collection Area before 14:30 on the race day. They also can be collected from the second day at the Organizing Committee office. If these personal belongings are fail to be claimed within five days, the Organizing Committee will dispose them as ownerless goods.

 

(VII) FUNCTIONAL DRINK STATION AND WATER/SPONGE STATION

Functional Drinks will be available from the Start and every 5KM along the course. One Water/Sponge Station will be allocated between two neighboring Functional Drink Stations.

 

(VIII) REFRESHMENTS STATION

Refreshment Stations will be allocated at the point of 17.5KM, 22.5KM, 27.5KM, 32.5KM and 37.5 KM.

 

(IX) RACE T-SHIRT

Race T-shirts will be distributed together with the bibs and participants pack. Runners shall collect bibs and participants pack before the race day in the Expo. Due to the limitation of T-shirts' size, the Organizing Committee will issue different sizes of T-shirts averagely during the morning and afternoon sessions. Runners are recommended to arrange time properly to pick up bibs, participants packs and t-shirts which are not able to be returned once they are issued.

(XI)ANTI-DOPING

The runners will be sampled randomly for the doping test.

 

(XII) Video monitoring system will be applied over the Start, the whole course and the Finish. Should runners commit any of the following fouls, they will be disqualified from the race, deprived of their competition scores, and banned from the Guangzhou Marathon for two consecutive years and could face additional penalties imposed by the CAA.

1. Age falsification or athlete misrepresentation;

2. Carry another runner's timing chip, or carry two or more timing chips in the race (including one runner carrying timing chip of the other gender);

3. Disobey the starting sequence and do not start at the designated area assigned by the Organizing Committee;

4. Violate the rules concerning the start;

5. Stay in the course after the Cut Off Time or go back to the course after existing;

6. Take a shortcut, break into the race by taking transportation and do not follow the course of the event;

7. Pick up the Post-participant packages by repeatedly crossing the finishing line against the provisions;

8. Do not complete the whole course but cross the finishing line to get the Post-participant packages;

9. Complete the race without carrying the runner's own two bibs;

10. Forge the bibs or use the bibs of other races or previous Guangzhou Marathon to cross the finishing line;

11. Alter or shield the bibs, not wear the bibs as required, or transfer the bibs to another individual;

12. Carry timing chips that are not issued by the Organizing Committee to cross the finishing line;

13. Race in relay;

14. Disobey instructions and warnings of the event's staff, and disturb the event's operation;

15. Uncivilized behavior (such as urinating or defecating anywhere on or near the course, littering, etc.);

16. Other violations to the rules and regulations.

 

IX. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

(I) AGE REQUIREMENTS

For Marathon, participants shall be at least 20 years old (born in or before 1997).

For Half Marathon, participants shall be at least 18 years old (born in or before 1999).

 

(II) PHYSICAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS

Marathon running is an athletic sport of high intensity and great demand of endurance over a long distance which involves a degree of risk. As it raises high demands on the physical conditions, participants are expected to have good health and some running or training experiences. Participants may choose the event from Marathon, and Half Marathon, according to their own physical conditions and actual abilities.

 

Participants with following symptoms shall not to take part in the event:

Congenital heart disease and rheumatic heart disease;

Hyper tension and cardio-vascular disease;

Myocarditis and other heart diseases;

Coronary artery disease and serious cardiac arrhythmia;

Hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia diabetics;

Patients of catching a cold within two weeks before the competition date;

Pregnant;

Patients of other diseases unfit for sports.

 

All participants shall be liable for personal injury and property loss caused by personal health condition or other personal reasons during the event. Before the entry, participants are required to have physical check-up (including electrocardiographic examination) in qualified medical institutions, and make a self-evaluation to confirm if the physical condition is suitable for the event of their choice.

Statement: The setting of the courses, Water/Sponge station and mobile toilets are not appropriate for users with wheelchair, baby carriage, roller skate etc. The organizing committee reserves the right to disqualify in order to fully protect your safety. In addition, racing wheelchair group is not set in this race, so the result will not be acknowledged if racing wheelchair compete.

 

(III) QUOTA OF ENTRY

The overall maximum number of participants for all events is 30,000. For Marathon, the quota is limited to 18,000, and for Half Marathon it is 12,000.

 

(IV) ENTRY METHODS

Individual application can be made in www.guangzhou-marathon.com. Team application is not accepted.

 

All applicants shall read and consent to the Participant Declaration, Log-in Instruction, Registration Instruction, and Possible Risks before filling out and submit the online application form. The entry will be completed by successfully finishing online entry fees' payment. After the entry is closed, runner can follow the official bulletin to log in www.guangzhou-marathon.com, to check his / her bib number, download and print Registration Letter, acknowledge the procedures and requirement to pick up participant packages.

 

Athletes, registered in the CAA, shall make their entries through the website of CAA.

 

Bib numbers will be released on Tuesday 26 September. Runners can log in www.guangzhou-marathon.com to check his / her bib number.

 

(V) TIMELINES

The entry will be divided into two stages.

The first stage: entry for Marathon

1. Online Registration

The system opens to all applicants at 10:00 (GMT+8) on Tuesday 6 June and closes at 17:00 (GMT+8) on Friday30 June. Applicants can log in the www.guangzhou-marathon.com to fill out and submit the online application form. If the number of applicants exceeds the maximum of the entry quota, the eligibility will be decided by draw.

 

2. Results of Draw and Entry Fees

The results of the draw will be showed in the Runners Center in www.guangzhou-marathon.com at 10:00 on Thursday 6 July. Payment system will then be opened to those eligible to the event from 10:00 (GMT+8) on Thursday 6 July to 17:00 (GMT+8) Friday 16 July. The eligible participants shall pay the entry fee to complete registration before the payment system closed. Otherwise, their entries will be cancelled automatically. Applicants will be responsible for the processing fee and any other fees during the payment processing.

 

The second stage: entry for Half Marathon

1. Online Registration

The system opens to all applicants at 10:00 (GMT+8) on Thursday 3 August and closes at 17:00 (GMT+8) on Sunday 27 August. Applicants can log in the www.guangzhou-marathon.com to fill out and submit the online application form. If the number of applicants exceeds the maximum of the entry quota, the eligibility will be decided by draw.

 

2. Results of Draw and Entry Fees

The results of the draw will be showed in the Runners Center in www.guangzhou-marathon.com on Thursday 7 September. Payment system will then be opened to those eligible to the event from 10:00 (GMT+8) on Thursday 7 September to 17:00 (GMT+8) Sunday 17 September. The eligible participants shall pay the entry fee to complete registration before the payment system closed. Otherwise, their entries will be cancelled automatically. Applicants will be responsible for the processing fee and any other fees during the payment processing.

(VI) ENTRY FEES

1.    Chinese applicants (including applicants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan):

Marathon or Half Marathon: 120 RMB / Person;

2.  Foreign applicants: Marathon or Half Marathon: 50 USD / Person;

3.  The entry will be completed by successfully paying for entry fees online. Once the payment goes through, the registration fee will not be refunded.

 

(VII) ONLINE PAYMENT

1. Unionpay, Alipay and WeChat Pay: Domestic payments;

2. Paypal: International payments.

 

(VIII) REQUIREMENTS FOR MARATHON AND HALF MARATHON

The Diploma or Result Certificate of past Half Marathon or Marathon events is required for entering into 2016 Marathon or Half Marathon events.

 

(IX) Participant packages 

(I) Runners shall pick up their participant packages (including bibs, timing chips, Participants Guide, etc.) at the designated place three days before the race. For more details, please refer to Participant Packages Pick-up Guide and announcements from the official website.

(II) All runners shall pick up their participant packages in person with their Registration Confirmation Letters, ID Cards and Participants Declaration signed by runners themselves. participant packages are strictly forbidden to be picked up by others. Additionally, runners should provide Finisher Certificates of past Half Marathon or Marathon events or their photocopies (one piece) for verification. Runners shall be solely responsible for the validity and authenticity of these documents.

 

(III) The Organizing Committee reserves the rights to disqualify anyone who disregards any rule of the event or provides counterfeit certificates. In this case, entry fee will not be refunded.

(IX) RUNNERS RESULT

All runners can check results and download finish certificates on the official website (www.guangzhou-marathon.com).

 

(X) The travelling, city transportation and accommodation fees shall be born by the runners.

 

X. PRIZES

(I) MARATHON

1. RANKING PRIZE

Top eight male and female runners (ranked by gun time) will be awarded with the following bonus respectively (a 20% income tax will be levied). For Chinese runner, equivalent amount of Yuan will be given.

Note:

(1) The bonuses will be transferred to the male and female Marathon winners after their results are publicized and they pass the doping test. 

(2) Each of the top three male and female Marathon runners will be awarded with one trophy and one medal.

(3) The runners who finish the race before the Cut Off Time will be awarded with Post-Race Package and finishing medals.

 

2. AWARDS FOR BREAKING THE RACE RECORD (A 20% income tax will be levied)

(1)Marathon Male

The runner whose racing time is within 2:10:01 (NOT including 2:10:01) and who ranks as the first place of the race will be awarded with US$10000;

(2)Marathon Female

The runner whose racing time is within 2:26:46 (NOT including 2:26:46) and who ranks as the first place of the race will be awarded with US$10000.

 

3. SPECIAL AWARD FOR CHINESE RUNNERS (based on net time)

The first male and the first female Chinese Marathon runners will be awarded with a special award of 30000RMB which will be imposed by a 20% individual income tax.

 

Each of top three male and female Chinese runners will be awarded with one trophy.

 

(II) HALF MARATHON

The top eight male and female runners (ranked by net time) will be awarded with the following bonus respectively (bonus shall be imposed by a 20% individual income tax). For Chinese runner, equivalent amount of Yuan will be given.

(III) OTHERS

Each eligible runner will be granted with a racing T-shirt, a set of bids and a kitbag.

 

XI. MEDICAL AID

(I) MEDICAL STATIONS

Medical stations will be available at every 2.5 kilometers after 5KM. Obvious signs will be set 50 meters ahead of a Medical Station. Runners, feeling uncomfortable or having any other emergencies, shall go to the nearby station for treatment.

 

(II) AMBULANCE SERVICES

Ambulance services are set along the racing course to handle emergency medical situation in time.

 

(III) VOLUNTEERS

The Organizing Committee will arrange one volunteer every 100 meters to 200 meters along the course to provide medical aid, keep race order and offer other help.

 

XII. INSURANCE

The Organizing Committee will cover all runners and staff members with Personnel Accident Insurance. Personnel Accident Insurance Instructions can be read at www.guangzhou-marathon.com after releasing the bib numbers.

 

XIII. TECHNICAL OFFICIALS

The technical officials will be appointed by Chinese Athletic Association (CAA) and Guangzhou Athletic Association(GAC).
